Inflation
Inflation is the general rise in prices over time, which means each dollar buys less than it used to. Central banks typically target about 2% annual inflation. For savers and investors, beating inflation is the minimum bar — money earning less than the inflation rate is quietly losing value.
Example
At 3% inflation, something that costs $100 today will cost about $134 in 10 years.
