Frequently asked questions

How is RD maturity calculated?
Each monthly deposit earns interest for its remaining tenure at quarterly compounding. Maturity = Σ R × (1 + r/4)^(4 × remaining years), where R = monthly deposit, r = annual rate.
What is the minimum RD deposit in Indian banks?
Most banks accept RDs starting from ₹100–₹500 per month. Post Office RD starts at ₹100/month. SBI, HDFC, and ICICI allow ₹500 minimum.
Is RD interest taxable?
Yes. RD interest is taxable as "Income from Other Sources." TDS at 10% is deducted if total interest exceeds ₹40,000 (₹50,000 for senior citizens) in a year.
RD vs SIP — which is better?
RD offers guaranteed returns and capital protection (bank deposit). SIP in equity mutual funds offers potentially higher returns (10–15%) but with market risk. Choose RD for short-term goals and SIP for long-term wealth creation.
